Good morning! I’m going to break down a few GPP plays for the early slate on DraftKings and FanDuel in this article. Since there is only four games, I’m going to take an in depth dive into one pitcher and one offensive stack that I really like. I also wanted to throw in a one-off play that seemed too obvious to leave out of the article. Good luck in your contests this afternoon!
Andrew Suarez vs Texas Rangers | $6700 on DK | $7000 on FD
For starters, I like Suarez more as a SP2 on DraftKings paired with Zack Wheeler or Nick Pivetta compared to your lone pitcher on FanDuel. I love the match-up for Suarez this afternoon, but first let’s get the bad news out of the way. Suarez has given up seven, yes seven home runs over his last five games! Four home runs at AT&T Park in his last two games. Not ideal. However, here are some reasons why I love this match-up so much. The Rangers come into this game with the 6th most strikeouts to left handed pitchers this year. They particularly struggle with sliders, which is Suarez’s strikeout pitch. This year Suarez has thrown his slider nearly 25% of the time. He has a whiff rate of 24.6% and an average distance of 269 feet. It’s by far his best pitch. In the Rangers projected lineup, there is only one player who has above a .170 ISO against sliders this season. Across the board their project lineup has a 22.6% strikeout rate and that currently doesn’t include Joey Gallo’s 40.7% rate! The strikeouts are great, but I also love that Suarez has the lowest walk rate on the slate at 6.2%. There is nothing worse than seeing your pitcher walk a batter or consecutive batters. The pitch count climbs and the chance for earned runs increases. It appears the Rockies carry lots of negativity when they travel on the road, but we need to start reserving that spot for the Rangers. They have the worst home/road split this year and it isn’t even close. They have scored the most runs at home and are 26th in runs scored on the road. The Rangers have an implied total of only 3.9 runs as Suarez and the Giants are -145 favorites which is also nice to see. To cap it off, I feel that Suarez is a fantastic value option on the early slate that will allow you to pay up for your preferred pitching ace along with some good bats.
