MLB GPP Plays – August 24th, 2018

We have a large 14-game slate on this Friday. We may see some rain in Chicago and Minnesota, but other than that, the weather looks good everywhere else! I will just be hitting on my initial thoughts for pitchers and stacks in this article so let’s get to it!

  • Mike Clevinger– If I am paying up at pitcher on this slate, it will probably be for Clevinger, who is facing the Kansas City Royals. Over the last 30 days, the Royals are tied for the fourth highest strikeout rate at 23.4% and own only an 85 wRC+ and .147 ISO. The Indians pitcher is striking opposing batters out at a 24% clip this season. Clevinger does have a 4.97 xFIP to lefties this season, but I am not scared of any of the Royals lefties.

  • C.C. Sabathia– The Yankee’s southpaw is coming off the 10-day DL with a hamstring issue, but is going up against the Baltimore Orioles. On the season, Baltimore ranks dead last in wRC+ and ISO and sport a 24.2 K%. Sabathia has limited hard contact to 28.8% this year. He does have a 4.30 SIERA for the season and a 4.65 xFIP away from home this year but let’s be honest…the Orioles stink.
